Triton Power

Triton Power is a private independent power generating company with a capacity of 1.35GW.

Triton Power provides power to the UK wholesale electricity market through their UK power stations, playing an important role in security of supply when renewable generation does not deliver. Their combined output is sufficient to provide electricity for up to half a million homes in the UK.

Saltend Power Station is one of the largest, most efficient natural gas-fired power generating facilities in England.  As a cogeneration plant, Saltend Power Station provides electricity and steam for the Saltend Chemicals Park and the balance of the plant’s output is sold into the UK’s wholesale power market.

Triton Power is part of the Hydrogen to Humber (H2H) Saltend decarbonisation project to reduce carbon emissions.  H2H Saltend is the anchor project to the broader Zero Carbon Humber initiative and will kick start a hydrogen economy which will be a significant enabler for the UK’s Net Zero ambitions, facilitating the infrastructure build for hydrogen production and CCUS, which can then connect to other industry and power stations within the Zero Carbon Humber initiative to significantly reduce UK carbon emissions.

Tricoya

Tricoya UK Limited is completing construction of and will operate the world’s first Tricoya® wood chip production facility, at Saltend Chemicals Plant, Hull, UK.

Tricoya® wood elements are produced using Accsys’ proprietary technology for the acetylation of wood chips, fibres and particles, primarily for use in the fabrication of panel products. The acetylation process gives enhanced properties to the sustainably-sourced wood chips, increasing durability, dimensional stability, and suitability for use in outdoor or wet environments for panels made with Tricoya®.

Typical usages include façade cladding/siding and other secondary exterior applications, window components, door components, door skins and wet interiors, including wall linings. Tricoya UK Ltd forms part of the Tricoya Consortium established in 2017 by Accsys Technologies PLC. Equity partners in Tricoya Ventures UK Ltd includes Accsys (parent company), INEOS Acetyls and Medite Europe DAC.

bp

BP is at the forefront of research and technology in the petrochemicals field, and Hull is one of our principal global centres for petrochemicals research and technology. In addition, Hull hosts part of BP’s Centre of Expertise in Applied Chemistry and Physics (AC&P).

The Cativa® process is a world-leading technology and a pioneering approach to making acetic acid. Cativa® is the method used for producing acetic acid by carbonylation of methanol using an iridium catalyst system. This technology was developed by a team in Hull in the 1990s and commercialised in 1995.

Teams in Hull have also developed the SaaBre™ process – a new route for the production of acetic acid by converting synthesis gas directly to acetic acid in a proprietary, integrated three-step process.

Future projects

Saltend will host Hydrogen to Humber Saltend, or H2H Saltend, the flagship project of the Zero Carbon Humber Scheme.

H2H Saltend will establish the world’s largest Hydrogen production plant with Carbon Capture capability, and will be the starting point for a Hydrogen and CO2 pipeline network.

Initially, the plant will allow industrial customers at Saltend to switch over to hydrogen-fuelled energy and will reduce the amount of fossil fuels going into the Park’s gas-fired power plant, thus cutting emissions by nearly 900,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.

Pensana PLC

In April 2021 Pensana was granted planning permission to establish the £125 million facility, which will play a crucial role in producing the materials that are essential to production of electric cars and wind turbines. Both of these sectors have been earmarked by the UK government as critical to the country reaching Net Zero emissions.

Pensana says that the facility, which will directly create over 100 jobs in the area, has a target production of around 12,500 annualised tonnes of rare oxides, including 4,500 tonnes of magnet metal rare oxides, representing approximately 5% of the global projected demand.

The project broke ground in the summer of 2021 – keep an eye on our news page for more updates about this exciting project!
